The Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology at Iowa State University is currently seeking applications for a Research Scientist who will work bacterial microcompartments in Salmonella and E. coli bacteria. The purpose is to conduct fundamental research on microcompartments involved in choline metabolism. The duties include designing and conducting research on bacterial microcompartments, assisting in writing manuscripts for publication and supervising and training entry-level students and research technicians on use of equipment and lab protocols. The candidate is expected to be highly organized, keep careful records, have the ability to think independently and creatively, and effectively troubleshoot scientific experiments. The candidate will also have strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work well as part of a research group.
Example of Duties â¢ Develops, designs and conducts one or more small or moderately complex research projects or experiments in line with plan, reviews progress and evaluates results. â¢ Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques. â¢ Assists with publications and writing or developing grants. â¢ Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations and outcomes. â¢ Coordinates data collection and screening and verifies the data. â¢ Conducts analysis of data, interprets and implements research methodology based on outcome of analysis.
