UW Medical Center - Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for a House Supervisor/Assistant Nurse Manager, to work in the Acute Care Resource Team and Admission and Bed Coordination Center. There are two positions available, open to current UWMC RNs only.
The Assistant Nurse Manager assists the nurse manager to develop, maintain, and evaluate the ongoing operations of the Resource Team with primary focus of the nurses and patient care technicians that work on the night shift. Additionally, the Assistant Nurse Manager will work clinically as The House Supervisor (HS) and is responsible for ensuring the departments are staffed and patients placed in accordance with established guidelines, with quality, patient safety and fiduciary expectations in mind. The HS acts as the single point of contact for physicians, departments, nursing and administrative management team, to assist in the timely and accurate placement of patients, and all aspects of patient movement and coordination of care. The HS oversees the work of the Patient Throughput Coordinators and the Staffing Program Coordinator to achieve these goals.
SCHEDULE 90%, nightshift. In this position, the general distribution of work will be 45% as night shift House Supervisor; 25% in a float RN capacity and 20% administrative time. Some flexibility to adjust hours into days or eves on occasion for team meetings is required.
Assists the Nurse Manager in the recruitment, staff selection and onboarding process for Resource Team, including nurses, patient care technicians and contingent workers.
Designs and coordinates annual competency reviews for RN and PCT staff.
Assists with planning and/or implementation of continuing education programs for Resource Team staff.
Rounds on Resource Team staff and represents night shift interests during leadership meetings.
Collaborates with Resource Team leadership team to manage boarding areas, implement quality improvement and staff satisfaction projects.
Provides feedback and guidance to staff; observes and reviews staff performance. Identifies the individual capabilities of staff; provides counseling, instruction, or additional experience as needed; and consults with the Manager if further action is indicated.
Responds to department or PSN feedback about employee performance or patient safety events in a timely manner.
House Supervisor Staffing Responsibilities:
Directs and supervises the Staffing Program Coordinators to implement and adjust staffing plans.
Maintains competency to perform basic staffing functions when necessary.
Is responsible to ensure allocation of resources follows established guidelines.
Is the escalation resource for Staffing program coordinators, charge nurses, admitting providers and patient throughput coordinators to investigate and resolves conflicts.
Provides coaching to charge nurses for staffing and patient placement.
Continuously monitors daily operations – integrating data from electronic systems, personal communication, and physical unit rounds to assure patient care effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction.
Assists staff to understand a more global perspective in decision making.
Leads facility Staffing/Bed Report meetings; holds attendees accountable to staffing guidelines and insures collaborative approach to staffing decisions; intervenes with solutions to resolve challenges.
Provides leadership for effective communication and collaboration between disparate stakeholders to achieve the common goal of safe, high quality patient care.
Coordinates interdepartmental efforts to facilitate a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Evaluates each situation and implements emergency responses as appropriate.
House Supervisor Patient Placement Responsibilities:
Maintains ongoing communication with all units, including the ED, PACU the OR, the clinics, Transfer Center, Triage MD, accepting physicians and physician leadership.
Establishes strong collaborative relationships with charge nurses and nurse managers/ managers in each department and with key physicians in medicine and surgery.
Assumes Patient Throughput Coordinator duties when PTC is not scheduled.
House Supervisor Fiscal Responsibilities:
Accountable for appropriate use of financial resources including staffing resources.
Accountable in ensuring adherence to organizational programs and/or initiatives designed to maximize the return on organization financial resources through improvements and service delivery, reduction in expenses, and/or optimization of revenue.
House Supervisor General Responsibilities:
Collaborates with the Stat RN to notify Administrator on Call in a timely manner of potential disasters or safety issues.
Assumes leadership role in protecting patients, families, visitors and staff when actual unsafe situations are identified.
Creates and fosters a working environment that promotes effective communication, collaboration, creativity and optimal productivity.
Uses clinical judgment and collaborative skills to make decisions in the best interest of the patient.
Current UWMC RN with at least two years of recent/current med-surg float pool nursing experience
BSN or enrolled in BSN program
Excellent communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills
