We are seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to conduct basic and translational research in the field of oncology. The Research Technician will work in Dr. Nikhil Munshi's lab in the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Munshi has focused his research studies on multiple myeloma; and has transformed myeloma therapy and patient survival over the last decades through the identification and validation of therapeutic targets in tumor cells and bone marrow microenvironment.
This position will assist scientists in performing scientific research, set-up and monitoring experiments, making observations, calculating and recording results.

The technician will be an integral member of our research team and will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. Current projects include studies aimed at decoding and targeting the noncoding RNA networks that drive the outset and progression of multiple myeloma. The role of the Lab Technician serves a very important and critical role in the flow of the laboratoryâ€™s research. Previous lab experience is encouraged as the candidate will be expected to independently carry out essential research functions in the laboratory that include but are not limited to:
â€¢ Cell culture â€¢ Western blot analysis (immuno-precipitations and immunoblotting), â€¢ RNA/DNA extractions, PCR and RT-PCR â€¢ Transient transfection and lentiviral transduction â€¢ Flow cytometry assays and experience with analysis (DIVA, FLOW-JO) is preferred. â€¢ Follows optimized protocols to process peripheral blood and bone marrow from patients with multiple myeloma on designated clinical trials and tissue banking protocols â€¢ Assists research fellows with various next-generation sequencing experiments using multiple myeloma cell lines and patient samples â€¢ Attends lab meetings and actively participates in communicating updates on sample intake for various protocols â€¢ Maintains accurate electronic and physical sample inventories â€¢ Performing cytotoxicity and proliferation assays
Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or immunology preferred.Â
Knowledge of information and techniques related to biology and immunology is preferred.
Good organizational and interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of data management, word processing, graphic software (Excel, MS Word, Graphpad/PRISM) is preferred.
Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
Basic mathematic skillset and ability to work within a team environment.
The position is expected to work full time (40 hours/week) for one year with option to extend position beyond this term.
