Normal Work Schedule: May require shift work
Job Summary: This apprenticeship position is entrance into a five-year voluntary program to become a state licensed Certified Elevator Technician through a Federal Bureau of Apprentice and Training approved program consisting of on-the-job learning and course instruction.
Additional Department Summary: Must be able to be on call, be accessible by phone when on call and report to work within one hour of being called.
Required Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma and one (1) year of elevator experience; OR high school diploma and two (2) years of electrical or electronic experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Must also have a working knowledge of the use of multimeters and oscilloscopes.
Preferred Qualifications: Electrical or electronic schools or training is preferred. Preferred experience includes troubleshooting and repairs on AC/DC motors and motor control circuits; relay and/or solid state/ microprocessor control circuits; hydraulic systems and valves; and mechanical systems in general.
