Prof. Ellis Mengâs research group at the University of Southern California (USC) is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated laboratory technician to support the activities of an NIH resource center that will develop and disseminate polymer microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology for neural interfaces.
BS degree in a related science or engineering discipline or equivalent field experience, with 5 years of relevant experience on the microfabrication, assembly, and testing of electrode-based neural interfaces
Prior experience is required in at least two or more of the following:Â Electronics assembly including soldering, reflow soldering, and component potting, microfabrication, wire bonding, microassembly of neural electrodes, wafer processing, Parylene coating, electrochemical measurements, and/or microscopy
Proficiency in verbal and written communication
Capable of working independently and in a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to maintain equipment and perform processes according to standard operating procedures
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Packaging and assembly of microelectronics for neural interfaces
Assisting in the development of new packaging/assembly protocols and tools
Testing, including electrochemical measurements, of components and assemblies for neural interfaces
Perform microfabrication and assembly tasks to support custom projects, multi-project runs, and testing capabilities of the resource
Help maintain and track material inventory
Documentation of device fabrication runs and protocols
Operate and maintain laboratory and fabrication equipment
Close collaboration with resource team, users, and Dr. Meng
Participate in regular meetings and discussions with the research group, collaborators, resource users, and the research sponsors
Track and create documentation for quality assurance
Minimum Education: Associateâs Degree; Specialized/Technical Training
Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Minimum Experience: 2 years
Minimum Field Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols.Â Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data
Preferred Education: BS in science or engineering discipline and prior work on neural interfaces
Preferred Experience: 10 years
Preferred Field of Expertise:Â Directly hands-on experience with equipment, procedures, and analysis methods related to NIH funded research on neural interfaces.
