POSITION SUMMARY:

This position assists pharmacists with daily pharmacy operations in a supportive role, under the pharmacist’s direct supervision.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists with accurate preparation, labeling, and dispensing of patient take-home and oral medications.  This includes timely delivery of medications to nursing staff and patients.
2. Assists with order entry of take-home medications, electronic claims process of prescriptions, and able to operate cash register to collect payments from patients.
3. Prepares and compounds sterile parenteral products, including cytotoxic compounds using proper aseptic technique, assuring continuous quality control during preparation of admixtures.   Performs required calculations and verification of doses.
4. Assists with drug purchasing and inventory management; communicates with drug vendors and suppliers for cost effective drug and material purchasing.  This includes monitoring inventory for expired medications and assisting with return of expired drug products.  Replenishes stock when drug inventory is low.  Obtains office supplies when needed for pharmacy operations.
5. Assists with quality assurance monitoring programs, including but not limited to, temperature monitoring of pharmacy refrigerators and freezers, IV hood cleaning documentation, filling Nucleus stock, checking for expired medications, checking stock for recalled medications, updating the “Borrow and Loan” records, checking eye wash stations, and filing prescriptions.
6. Participates in pharmacy continuing educational programs, seminars, and all required training and certifications to maintain job status and/or pharmacy licensure as required by law.
7. Ensures update of educational reference material, answers telephone, assists customers at pharmacy counter/door, and assists pharmacists with any requested pharmacy duties.  Assists with keeping pharmacy neat, clean, and orderly.

• High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
• Three or more years in pharmacy operations, including IV admixtures and cytotoxic drug handling and/or retail pharmacy experience.
• Current Missouri and/or Illinois Pharmacy Technician License, as applicable by state of work location. 
• Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

• Current certification from PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board).
• Pharmacy experience, including IV admixture experience with demonstrated ability to ensure accurate drug dispensing.
• Safe handling and preparation of cytotoxic and hazardous drugs.
• Basic computer skills, including typing.
• Basic pharmacy skills. 
• Ability to understand and follow complex written or verbal instructions. 
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to organize time and work independently.
• Able to handle confidential material.

The hiring range for this position is $15.85 - $19.43 per hour.
