Insure samples meet the criteria for testing. Prepare samples for bacterial culture. Maintain the identity and integrity of samples Determine the enrichment method Bring any unusual or nonconforming sample submissions to the attention of a Animal Diagnostic 2 technician (lead tech) or supervisor. Store samples appropriately prior to testing. Test in a timely manner.
Operate and maintain a variety of routine clinical diagnostic laboratory equipment- 15%
Properly functioning laboratory equipment is essential to be able to validate test results. Our QA/QC program requires training and routine equipment maintenance and calibration schedules for all equipment critical to tests or safety. This includes but is not limed to manual and electronic pipets, automatic liquid handling units, automatic microtiter plate washer and stacker, sterilizers, ELISA reader, biological safety cabinet, laminar floor hood, fume hood, scale, laboratory timers, rotators, hot plates, pH meter, incubators, refrigerators and freezers, eye wash stations and safety showers. Trained in the use of Mesa Labs equipment monitoring system which is a system used to track and monitor all equipment critical to testing.
NPIP/BAH, AAVLD, NAHLN, QA/QC and Safety Requirements-10%
Preforms Quality Assurance/Quality Control Procedures and maintains documentation according to existing QA/QC standards. Trained and experienced in Q-pulse, the QA/QC information management system of the VDL. Review SOP’s annually and raise change requests through Q-pulse. Identify and report incidents or remedial actions. Identify and raise non-conformances through Q-pulse. Attends laboratory audits as an auditee Attends and participates in laboratory staff meetings, continuing education courses and workshops required of NPIP authorized laboratories. Successfully participate and pass annual proficiency testing. This includes primary section tests. AI AGID, and AI ELISA; but also includes tests that are performed as part of being cross trained to work in multiple departments (Mycoplasma and AI PCR). Train new or less experienced on QA/QC requirements.

Qualifications: BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years; or a combination of work experience and education to equal 4 years. Applies knowledge and skill to a recurring task or activity with emphasis typically on precision and timeliness of execution.
