The Rockefeller University seeks an Animal Technician, Systems Cancer Biology to join Systems Cancer Biology. The Animal Technician will assist senior members of the laboratory with all aspects of animal work. Responsibilities include managing mouse colonies (i.e. weaning mouse pups and updating an electronic mouse cage census), genotyping transgenic mice, and performing basic surgery such as tumor cell injections and tumor resections. Will serve as a primary liaison between the lab and animal facility staff, and devote some time to basic laboratory maintenance under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager.
High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree and educational emphasis in biology, chemistry, or the life sciences preferred. Must be interested in and enthusiastic about working mouse models. Previous experience working with rodents, performing molecular biology techniques (tissue and DNA extraction and PCR), and working with mammalian cell culture is desirable. Excellent organization skills to handle multiple tasks at once, and strong written and oral communication skills required. Must be enthusiastic about learning, a team player, and have strong commitment and responsibility. Must have the ability to anticipate and execute beyond given tasks and responsibilities.
