Position Summary

Responsible for providing engineering and technical support in the areas of relay protection and related control functions. Prepares protection applications including equipment specification and application and installation drawings. Also assists the Meter Engineer with revenue meter installations and technical support, as needed

Essential Job Functions

• Designs new and modifies protective relay schemes or any required modifications to existing systems.
• Coordinates protective relays for transmission lines, substations, and generation stations.
• Evaluates all relay operations, troubleshoots relay problems, and recommends/implements required modifications of scheme and/or setting changes. This includes working with technicians to gather data to evaluate problems.
• Performs short circuit and protective relay coordination studies.
• Generates and maintains all appropriate data for short-circuit computer programs.
• Maintains and distributes, as necessary, all current protective relay/device settings.
• Applies and recommends devices needed to analyze system protection equipment; coordinates their installation and use as required
• Prepares responses to government, or other regulatory body, requests associated with system protection.
• Prepares documents for the maintenance of supporting documentation associated with applicable regulatory or industry standards related to system protection.
• Maintains and applies other engineering software and data needed to perform other engineering studies.
