Duties Serve as an engineer to support research into higher-order, human brain functions: cognition, volition, consciousness and related topics; integrate and engineer hardware and software modalities including designing new hardware equipment or software research tools as needed; conduct research based on proper scientific methods according to the latest literature: preregistering experiments, properly engaging with subjects, piloting paradigms, data preprocessing, data analysis, including from the statistical and signal-processing perspective, and other matters pertaining to the data processing pipeline; design and engineer new data processing methods and pipelines; instruct more junior researchers on these scientific and engineering methods; design neuroscientific / psychological / cognitive paradigms and program these paradigms (ranging from behavioral ones to motion tracking (e.g., eye tracking), autonomic-system monitoring (e.g., pupillometry, ECG), neuroimaging (e.g., EEG), and stimulation (e.g., TMS)) in MATLAB, Python, Experiment Builder, and other environments; instruct more junior researchers in such designs; develop and engineer machine-learning-based data analysis, including online and in real-time as well as in a closed-loop fashion; in charge of storing and managing data (including all raw, experimental data), lab agenda (including lab meetings, student presentations and so on); represent the research lab during outreaches to communities and other academic institutes; participate in relevant domestic and international workshops and conferences in related fields and keeping track of the most cutting-edge techniques; communicate with equipment vendors, obtain quotes, compare specs, capabilities and prices, order equipment; assemble, setup, calibrate, test and maintain equipment in good working order; train researchers (students, postdocs, visitors) on the use of the device/equipment. Must have experience with the following: one (1) year of experience in designing and constructing small electronic devices for biomedical and neuroscientific needs; designing, programming, and analyzing neuroscientific, psychological, and cognitive paradigms in standalone environments including MATLAB and Python, and in online environments including JavaScript; experience measuring neural (EEG) and physiological (ECG and motion tracking) signals in salt water including in a float pod; and experience with Arduino, LabView, and 3D printing as well as technical drawing using SolidWorks or AutoCad.
