Provides expertise in support of research projects in engineering, biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, etc. Prepares and edits research papers, proposal, and reports. Reviews progress of projects. May liaison with other areas of specialization to obtain support or technical expertise for projects. Defines procedures or processes to be used in the experimental processes. May personally conduct important and/or technically complex investigations.Supervision: Operates with considerable latitude for unreviewed action. Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of personnel.
The successful candidate will have the skills and experience necessary to manage a busy academic NMR research facility that includes JEOL 600, 500, and 400-MHz NMR instruments. Experience with multi-nuclear, multi-dimensional, and low temperature NMR experiments is required. Experience with solid-state NMR is desirable. Job duties include instructing new users with diverse skill sets in the safe and effective use of the NMR instruments, assisting experienced users conduct experiments, troubleshooting instrument software and hardware issues in collaboration with the Department's electronics technician, serving as a liaison with JEOL technicians in solving software and hardware problems remotely, conducting routine maintenance, including cryogen replenishment and probe cleaning, and gathering and submitting user billing information on a monthly basis. A PhD degree is strongly preferred.
