Some of the major projects in which SCIPP is presently involved include the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland, particularly the upgrade of ATLAS for the High Luminosity operation, the Heavy Photon Search experiment at Jefferson National Laboratory, and microelectrode array systems for neurobiology. Under the direction of the SCIPP Director and a designated SCIPP Research Scientist (see current list of SCIPP Research Scientists at http://scipp.ucsc.edu/personnel/index.html), the Specialists will contribute technical skills to make scientific and scholarly contributions to SCIPP research projects by assisting with instrumentation development and production, implementing and monitoring safe laboratory practices, fostering collaborative relationships with other scientists and agencies, and contributing to technical publications, presentations, and/or reports. All candidates are expected to have micro-electronics assembly and testing experience. Example projects may include silicon strip module assembly, thin high-bandwidth cable testing, test development for characterizing unique sensors or ASICs.
