We currently have an opening for an Engineering Technician in the Engineering Department. This position will work under the direction of and report to the Manager of Engineering. This position will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Performs periodic distribution facility inspections in coordination with other departments.
Assists in the management, maintenance and operation of critical systems such as SCADA, AVL, distribution equipment, etc. as well as their supporting hardware and software infrastructure.
Provides support during the installation, commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting of special electrical distribution equipment.
Assists in the coordination with dispatchers, line crews and members to satisfy power quality complaints including installation of power quality recording equipment.
Assists in the design and staking of new power lines by performing required calculations and developing a list of required RUS approved materials according to NESC requirements and guidelines.
Assists Field Engineers in obtaining right-of-way easements, highway and county permits and all necessary consumer paperwork.
Ensures safety of workers and of location by obtaining necessary utility locates.
Serves on after-hours on call rotation as a dispatcher. Irregular hours are required.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities required for this position:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational training in engineering, electronics, drafting, surveying or electrical distribution operations is preferred, but not required. Significant and relative work experience may substitute for two-year vocational or technical education.
Must possess good verbal and written communications skills with particular attention to details.
Must possess excellent customer service skills.
Must possess ability to perform mathematical calculations and complete necessary reports.
Must possess or obtain an effective working knowledge of the methods, assemblies and specifications used in the construction and maintenance of electric distribution lines and substations, including the installation of meters, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors and oil circuit reclosers.
Must have applied troubleshooting experience with various CPU based devices and enjoy researching and finding the root cause of problems.
Must have or be able to obtain a sound knowledge of RUS Construction specs, the National Electric Safety Code and BEC’s line extension policy.
Must possess or obtain a valid Missouri Class A CDL license within a reasonable time span.
Position requires walking, bending, stooping, lifting and outside work in all weather conditions across varying types of terrain and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Knowledge of SCADA systems, distribution equipment, and electric metering equipment is preferred, but not required.
