Position Summary: Plans, schedules, and performs instrument, controls, electrical, and continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) technical maintenance. In conjunction with plant supervisors, assists in overseeing and coordinating work performed by ICE contractors Responsible for achieving a high degree of reliability and efficiency on all plant ICE and CEMS equipment. Considers safety first and takes lead in promoting safety awareness in all situations and at all times. Assumes such authority as may be delegated.
Tasks. Duties and Responsibilities: Develops, schedules, and performs preventive maintenance on instruments, controls, electrical, and CEMS equipment. Maintains plant instruments and control systems in a high state of reliability and availability for the best level of performance and efficiency. Maintains plant electrical systems and CEMS equipment in a high state of reliability and availability. Interfaces with outside ICE vendors, contractors and service representatives to troubleshoot, service, and improve electrical equipment as well as pneumatic and electronic control systems. Supervises and performs maintenance activities on hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic controls systems for combustion turbines, steam turbines and PLC operated water plant equipment. Keeps abreast of new equipment and testing devices and makes recommendation on their use and/or purchase within framework of Cooperative practices. Performs software maintenance and program changes on plant control systems as required. Maintains back-up software for plant control systems. Maintains ICE records, drawings and equipment files, red line drawings showing changes made in the field on CWD’s and instrument or control systems. Maintains plant performance monitoring equipment to ensure optimum operating.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of power plant maintenance practices, operations, and project management. Experience with Generator Excitation and Load Commutated Inverters (LCIs) preferred. Experience with NERC required breaker and relay testing and the associated record keeping. Experience troubleshooting breakers up to 18KV, Relays, and Variable Frequency Drives. Ability to read blueprints, electrical drawings, circuit diagrams, P&IDs, etc. Ability to collaborate with other plant team members to diagnose issues and implement corrective maintenance. Ability to communicate effectively at a technical level. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize time/workload to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to coordinate assignments and handle multiple tasks concurrently. Skill and ability to use computers and related software for word processing, reporting, spreadsheets and e-mail. Ability to operate forklifts, man lifts, and scissor lifts.

Education and Experience Requirements: A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the instrumentation, controls, & electrical maintenance of an electrical generation facility is required. High voltage experience (480 volt up to and including 345 KV) preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent certificate plus 2 years of related college level, military or vocational school training equivalent to an associate’s degree in electrical/electronic/instrumentation.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: Requires working inside and outside of an electric generating plant in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes with extreme ranges of humidity and dryness. Requires working in areas of constant high noise and vibration levels. Requires lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying of weights equal to 50 pounds or more. Requires climbing ladders and stairs. Requires working at heights up to 95 feet. Requires wearing personal safety equipment. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted. Requires vision within normal range, corrective lens are permitted. Must participate, as needed, in working overtime, evenings and weekends. Must be able to respond within 45 minutes to the plant facility and be available for 24-hour on-call and emergency response. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
