The General Maintenance Technician is a member of the Housing and Residence Life team. This position handles repairs that require basic skills as an electrician, carpenter, plumber, mechanic, painter, HVAC technician, and roofer. The General Maintenance Technician performs a set schedule of routine maintenance procedures as well as preventative maintenance for the buildings. This position participates in on-call schedules during fall, winter, and summer breaks.
Duties include: repairs, installs, and services various machines and devices; conducts regular inspections of interior and exterior areas; performs general cleanings of buildings and areas; oversees contractors when professional repairs are necessary; diagnoses mechanical issues and corrects them; repairs machines, equipment, or structures; uses common tool such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches to perform repairs; and other duties as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Knowledge of basic computer skills
Ability to lift 50lbs, bend, twist, climb stairs and ladders
Knowledge to effectively use specialized tools and equipment
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced environment
Ability to use precision measuring instruments and electronic testing devices
