Perform journey level skilled trade work (plumbing, HVAC, or electrical) in one or more areas of expertise and semi-skilled repair work in other general maintenance areas. Perform journey level skilled trade work and semi-skilled maintenance/repair work on campus buildings, facilities, equipment or machinery. Monitor, repair, maintain, assemble, and install: wiring, electrical and electronic components, plumbing/pipe systems, physical structures, fixtures, paint, HVAC systems, locks/access systems, compressors, generators, engines, etc. Troubleshoot/diagnose equipment and building system problems. Determine corrective solutions by referring to blueprints, repair manuals, parts catalogs, and other resources. Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools.
Note: This will be a second shift position with hours of work from 3:30pm to 12:00am.
High school diploma or GED and a certificate in any DOL apprenticed trade, OR five years of verifiable journey level skilled trade experience (plumbing, HVAC, or electrical).
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
May be required to acquire and maintain position-required certifications. Knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations or ordinances. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools used to perform job duties. Knowledge of multi-craft maintenance in carpentry, electric, heating/cooling, plumbing, and equipment repair. Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Ability to complete performance based technical computer testing, written test and on-hands assessment. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to proficiently use computer and Windows based programs, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to proficiently use maintenance management and other job-required systems. Ability to read and interpret drawings, manuals/catalogs, blueprints and/or schematics. Ability to work in team environment, and to interact and communicate with a wide variety of people. Ability to perform work in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to learn and demonstrate the IUPUI Service with Distinction standards. Ability to follow the requirements of department's business continuity plan (BCP).
Additional two years of experience in a maintenance related field.
Working Conditions / Demands
Ability to move/transport minimum of 25 pounds, but not more than 50 pounds. Possible exposure to extreme hot or cold for one hour plus. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to industrial chemicals, fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin. Possible exposure to distracting/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body or extremities. Possible exposure to emergency and stressful situations. Ability to operate the specific tools/equipment required for each task, including but not limited to: common hand and power tools, hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, precision measuring instruments, and electrical and electronic testing devices.
