Perform skilled journey level work in preventative maintenance, repairs, installation and/or replacement of on-campus refrigeration, heating and air conditioning equipment and components such as, but not limited to: split or packaged air conditioning systems or water source heat pumps from 1/8 to 10 tons in size, multi-circuit water chiller units up to 150 tons in size, centrifugal chillers up to 300 tons in size, natural gas furnaces, water source heat pumps, walk-in freezers and environmental rooms.
Perform troubleshooting and repair on attached electrical, electronic, pneumatic and plumbed devices and subsystems. Troubleshoot and repair/replace according to National Electric Code (NEC) and Campus standards all air conditioning and refrigeration related electrical issues including electrical distribution systems, lighting, breakers, step down transformers, solenoid valves, electric motors, digital and analog control systems, printed circuit boards and thermostats. Respond to Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (A/C&R) and General Electrical System trouble calls anywhere on campus and at several off-campus locations.
Make quick analysis of mechanical and/or electrical problems through proper troubleshooting techniques and use of various test equipment, tools and schematics. Check, test, diagnose, install, maintain, upgrade, and/or repair/replace components to a wide variety of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to ensure systems and equipment are operating properly. Use proper techniques in the mechanical preservation and preventative maintenance of quality of output for A/C&R equipment and systems. Incumbents install, repair, calibrate and/or program control devices operating campus Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, & Heating (A/C-R & H) machinery.
Incumbents safely work in confined spaces such as overheads and mechanical spaces and work safely on and around electrical equipment including exposed conductors and wiring in voltages from 24VAC to 460VAC. Follow established safety procedures. Act as on-site expert resource for outside contractors performing work as directed by Facilities Management (FM). Review contractor proposals and assist FM management in development of job scope documentation for the renewal, replacement, and/or upgrade of UCSD air conditioning and refrigeration equipment when needed.
