The laboratory of Dr. Morgan DeSantis in LSA MCDB, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is seeking someone with research experience to serve as research technician. The DeSantis lab uses a combination of structural biology and cell biology to study mechanisms of cellular transport. We are particularly interested in a class of proteins, called motors, which move on microtubules to facilitate cargo trafficking. Technicians in our lab will get exposed to the following types of technologies: protein biochemistry, mammalian cell culture, live cell fluorescent imaging, single molecule total internal reflection fluorescence imaging, and cryo-electron microscopy.
Lab managerial duties
Ordering, organizing, and taking inventory or research supplies. Lab personnel onboarding and offboarding. Maintaining equipment and scheduling service visits.
Mammalian tissue culture
Basic cloning (PCR, DNA purification, cloning)
Insect cell culturing
Protein purification from mammalian cells, insect cells, and bacteria
Genome editing in cell culture (using CRISPR-Cas9)
Many types of fluorescence imaging, including live cell and TIRF
Preparing samples for negative stain or cryo-electron microscopy
Associate's degree and 1 year of relevant research experience in molecular biology, tissue culture, microscopy and / or protein purification. Must be highly organized and meticulous with note keeping. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Independent and eager to take ownership of a project.
BA or BS with 1 year of relevant research experience.
This is a one year term limited position with possibility of renewal.
