The University of California Observatories (UCO) is a Multi-Campus Research Unit of the University of California, with headquarters at the UC Santa Cruz campus. UCO operates on behalf of the astronomers across the UC system and is comprised of extensive technical facilities, a business office, and telescope and support facilities at the Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton. UCO provides a scientific and administrative interface to the Keck Observatory on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, and the Thirty Meter Telescope international project, and supports the training of astronomy PhD's throughout the UC system.
Under the direction of the Technical Facilities Manager, the incumbent will perform basic conceptual and detailed electronic designs for instruments in support of astronomical research at UCO. The incumbent will assemble electronic circuits and assemblies, cables and printed circuits. The incumbent will trouble shoot and repair electronics and electrical equipment including installation and testing. The incumbent will advise Principal Investigators, Research Specialists, engineers, technicians and mechanicians on matters involving electrical and electronic instruments and equipment.
