Job Summary: Under limited supervision, the IT Technician IV performs basic professional IT assignments. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of IT principles, practices and procedures, including hardware, software and networks, with in-depth knowledge and skill in at least one area of specialization. Ability to troubleshoot both standard and non-standard issues. Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required.
Additional Department Summary: Responsible for providing both technical support and customer service roles at the Network & Computing Support HelpDesk within a designated area. Assists faculty, staff, and students with the installation, configuration, and use of personal computer operating systems and software as well as the use of central computing systems and Web applications. Serves as the first line of support for faculty, staff and students seeking an IT resolution. Responsible for receiving IT issues via telephone, email/web and in person and for creating trouble tickets, resolving issues when possible, and/or making assignments to the appropriate personnel for resolution. Responsible for solving most problems received with little assistance from other personnel and to help other HelpDesk staff members.
Will be required to document issues in electronic call log. Duties will also include laptop set-up/configuration and software installations. This position could potentially supervise student employees.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of IT experience; OR a Bachelor's degree or higher and one (1) year of IT experience. Knowledge of basic programming, networking, or system skills. May require intermediate level training or certification. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated proficiency in recent Windows and Macintosh operating systems, recent versions of Microsoft Office, and Internet applications including Web browsers, e-mail applications, and FTP clients. Experience supporting computers in a LAN environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in person, over the phone, and in writing.
