Responsible to manage the physical cable plant infrastructure, as well as the installation of active data communications and electronic networking equipment in communications rooms and routing hubs. This position will place and maintain cables in tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, conduit, buried, and aerial as required. Perform tests on cable for certification and troubleshoot using various equipment such as, Fluke DSX5000, OTDRs, and spectrum analyzers. Install and deploy cabling and equipment in accordance with design plans and work orders. Conduct wireless network field surveys using tools such as the AirMagnet Survey Pro to measure signal strength and to generate wireless "heat maps". This position participates in the on-call rotation.
Skills and knowledge typically acquired through an Associate's degree in Telecommunication or related field and 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area
Experience in the telecommunications industry installing, terminating, troubleshooting, and maintaining twisted pair copper cable, coaxial cable, and fiber optic cables.
Comprehensive knowledge of electrical & electronic theory, UPS ops and maintenance, and data network equipment.
Comprehensive understanding of the data network equipment including wireless access points
Valid Driver's License
Certified Fiber Optic Technician
Ability to distinguish colors
Experience in completing wireless site surveys and field tests using survey tools
Experience in interpreting CAD drawings, common telecommunications symbols, building floor plans and network system/topology maps, the ability to also mark-up reference diagrams and "as-built" depictions using tools such as Microsoft-Visio
Four or more years of experience certifying and troubleshooting cabling using various test equipment, including; the B-Voltage Tester, Cable Toner, Fluke Cable Analyzer (DTX1200/1800, DSX5000), Fluke Linkrunner, Telephone Test Set (Butt Set), Volt/Ohm Meter, OTDR, Optical Spectrum Analyzer
Understand and be familiar with current TIA/EIA standards, national electrical code, and BICSI standards
Proficient in the use of a ticketing system such as Pinnacle, and Microsoft Office & Visio
Experience installing VOIP equipment and familiarity with basic VOIP testing and troubleshooting
