The Kellogg lab, in the College of Arts & Sciences, focuses on cryo-EM imaging of protein-DNA complexes. We work across disciplines, employing various techniques including protein biochemistry, computational modeling, and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to study the molecular mechanisms by which proteins function in the cellular environment. The Kellogg lab seeks a driven and motivated individual to carry out basic research related to protein expression/purification and electron microscopy imaging. Started in 2018, the Kellogg lab is a growing group of scientists who are share inter-disciplinary interests. We seek a collaborative and enthusiastic individual who is willing to learn and work in a team environment. This individual will be expected to participate in research related to protein expression/purification, EM sample preparation, and EM imaging. This position requires work experience along with knowledge of molecular biology equipment used in a laboratory environment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to reagent preparation and overall laboratory maintenance, prepare and sterilize materials, lab equipment and inventory, and help to keep the lab organized and clean. Ensure that all laboratory protocols and procedures adhere to safety requirements.
Required Qualifications: Associate's degree or other formal training program of two years or equivalent; more than 1 year, but less than two years or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be personable, flexible, proactive, demonstrate a positive "can do" attitude, possess excellent organizational and communication skills and take pride in their work. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff. Ability to maintain a comprehensive, up to date and accurate research lab notebook. Visual concentration, attention to detail and manual dexterity are required. Must be willing to learn new laboratory skills. Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment to accomplish required tasks. Should be comfortable with basic computer programs such as MS Word and Excel. Familiar with basic molecular biological, cell biological, and biochemical techniques. Able to work under general supervision and proceed alone on regular tasks. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in biology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or cell biology, or related subject. Knowledge of structural biology, cryo-EM, or basic computational biology a plus. Experience with eukaryotic cell expression and tissue culture highly desirable but not required.
