Senior Communications Technician to serve as a team leader in the construction, assembly, installation, maintenance, repair, service, monitoring and testing of the complex County-maintained Marin Emergency Radio Authority (MERA) microwave and trunked radio system, fire station alerting systems, dispatch control consoles, public address systems, cellular applications and other related communications systems/equipment. The Senior Communications Technician will serve as a subject matter expert in one or more of the functional areas of the Division and will assist in scheduling these services and performing related work as required to meet the business needs of the Division. There is currently one full-time (75 bi-weekly hours) position available.
Our highly qualified candidate has directly related experience with Networking (LAN & WAN). The candidate can assume a role of authority as necessary, advocate new ideas, even when risk is involved, set an example for the team, delegate responsibility and empower team members to make decisions, and provide constructive feedback to others. Incumbents exercise substantial initiative, judgment and expertise in the performance of their duties, digs beneath the obvious to get at the facts, even when not asked to do so, creates opportunities or minimizes potential problems by anticipating and preparing for these in advance, and seeks out and/or accepts additional responsibilities in the context of the job. In addition, through a variety of media, the ideal candidate has experience providing clear and effective guidance as well as training to staff, and maintaining successful working relationships with local public agencies, County personnel and members of the public.
We recognize your time is valuable, so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree in Electronics or a related field AND two years of full-time experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of trunked radio, microwave and related communications equipment. One year of additional related experience may substitute for the education requirement.
Certifications and Licenses: The ability to drive is an essential function for this position. The successful candidate must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license and submit a satisfactory driving history (within the last six months) obtained from the California DMV at the selection interview.
Possession of at least one valid license or certificate as listed is highly desirable: CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Server+; Cisco CCNA; ETA General Communications Technician; FCC General Radio Telephone Operator’s License; Associated Public-Safety Communication Officer, Inc. (APCO) Certificate; National Association of Business and Educational Radio, Inc. (NABER) Certificate; National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers, Inc. (NARTE) Certificate.
Special Requirements: The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a background investigation (LiveScan) at the FBI/DOJ level.
