The Lab Animal Care Technician is responsible for animal lab housing ensuring the humane, responsible, and scientifically or instructionally sound use of animal care in accordance with all university, state and federal regulations related to laboratory animal use and care. Duties include coordinate animal care and husbandry, including BSL-2 procedures, cleaning and maintenance of the animal housing facilities, communicate with supervisors and train faculty, staff, and students, and ordering, scheduling and receiving of materials, and record keeping.
Primary Responsibilities :
Must have the ability to: 1) use email and internet browsers; 2) create and maintain electronic documents, spreadsheets, and records; 3) communicate via phone or electronically; 4) identify and solve problems in a timely manner; 5) handle and euthanize lab animals and perform standard animal procedures; 6) maintain a clean and organized work environment; 7) adhere to budgets and order necessary lab supplies and materials; 8) work well with others.
Must also have a conscientious attitude toward animal care and well-being.
High School Diploma/GED with 3 years' experience, preferably experience working with animals or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs is required.
Work hours will occasionally include some weekends and holidays. Must also respond to after-hour emergency calls when necessary.
