The senior technician will assume the lead responsibility for repair, maintenance and calibration of laboratory and research equipment. Which will include, planning and scheduling of aforementioned tasks. Recommend new test equipment that will be needed now and in the future equipment services and calibrations.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities 35% Repair of Equipment -Repair equipment in the field or in the shop. Equipment that worked on; shakers, balances, pipettes, C02 incubators, centrifuges, ovens, shaking incubators , PCR machines, hot plates stirrers, mixers and other types of equipment that might be found in research and teaching laboratories. The senior technician will make recommendations on the modifications and upgrades of equipment being serviced. The senior technician will contact vendors, to obtain required calibration and preventive maintenance procedures. The senior technician will instruct the end users on proper use of equipment when the need arises, to ensure the equipment is used in the scope it was design to function in.
50% Calibration and Preventive Maintenance of Equipment -Calibrate equipment in the field or in the shop. Equipment that worked on; shakers, balances, pipettes, C02 incubators, centrifuges, ovens, shaking incubators, PCR machines and other types of equipment that might be found in research and teaching laboratories.
10% Documentation -Enter service call requests into database. Reply to service inquiries by, phone, e-mail or face to face conversations, Update and create new SOP’S for types of equipment that the shop currently services. Research new maintenance procedures and add to SOP’s as needed.
5% Customer Interface -Promote the shop service to labs on all campuses. Help develop new service that will meet the future needs of research and teaching laboratories.
Expected salary range: $45,000-$55,000, depending on qualifications.
Essential Qualifications: High school graduate/GED plus at least two years of trade school education or other training in electronics with at least one year of recent experience, or a combination of related experience and education totaling 3 years may be substituted.
Some positions may require Licensure by the state of Minnesota to preform electrical work.
Preferred Qualifications: • An Associate’s Degree in Electronics. • Experience in the repair of centrifuges, Co2 incubators, pipettes, balances, PCR machines and other equipment found in research & teaching laboratories. • Experience in the calibration & preventative maintenance of research & teaching equipment. • Ability to work with no or limited supervision. • Write standard operating procedures for equipment that is serviced electronic Instrument Services. • Software experience in File Maker Pro, Word & Excel programs.
