Potomac State College, part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Keyser, WV is seeking candidates for the position of Theatre Technician. Responsibilities of this position include maintaining the interior appearance of the Church McKee Arts Center (CMAC) and the surrounding exterior appearance of the grounds; performing stage, sound, and lighting needs for performances in the CMAC; and assisting Trades Specialists around campus as needed.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Assist electrician with the wiring of dimmer control panel per requirement of each performance held in the CMAC.
Troubleshoot spotlights, cables, strip lights, control breakers, and dimmers.
Select and focus spotlights for proper size and color according to each performance requirement.
Set up microphones on stage according to the requirement of each performance and w ire microphones from stage outlets through the mixer amplifier to the sound booth.
Maintain communication between stage and lighting booth.
Hang spotlights in required position per lighting plots for each performance; replace light bulbs in spotlights and all areas of the building as needed.
Coordinate all public functions within the Arts Center; communicate extensively with facility and outside users via phone and/or email.
Set up, maintain,and adjust portable public address system where needed on campus.
Perform all other duties required to maintain stage lighting and sound systems.
Make sure all WV Fire Marshall, OSHA, and WVU EH&S regulations are strictly adhered to.
Repair and report any safety problems observed.
Supervise stagehands during set-up and tear-down of shows.
Instruct all users of proper use of sound and lighting control.
Clean, scrub and refinish floors in classrooms, hallways, and stairwells of CMAC.
Keep restrooms clean and stocked with paper supplies and soap.
Assist with moving furniture and supplies.
Keep porches, sidewalks, steps and all fire exits clear of ice and snow.
Assist Trades Specialists with duties such as plumbing work and running data lines and electrical wiring.
Assist with campus-wide mowing, operating weed trimmer, snow removal, etc.

Pay Grade: 12
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
1-2 years of experience in public relations, electronics, stage lighting, and sound/PA system operation
6 months of electrical experience and custodial work
Valid driver's license
Ability to lift more than 75 lbs. and navigate stairs
Must be available to work evening and weekend hours
