General purpose: The Graduate Print Lab Technician provides technical support to the students and faculty in the MFA Illustration Practice, MA in Illustration, MA in Graphic Design and Graduate Research Lab at MICA.
Summary of Essential Functions: Reporting to the Grad Lab Manager, this position is a key customer-service and operational support position in serving MICAâs graduate student population. The Graduate Print Lab Technician serves as the first point of contact for Printing and Color Management support in the MFA Illustration Practice, MA in Illustration, and MA in Graphic Design program spaces. Duties include coordinating and managing the purchasing of consumables, repair/replacement of printing equipment and implementation of color management system. Position will work closely with Program Directors and the Graduate Research Lab Manager to ensure the current and future viability of printing in these Program spaces.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide Technical support for Laser, Ink Jet and Risograph printers
Purchase and maintain inventory of consumables
Perform/coordinate the repair of printing equipment
Advise on the repair, replacement, EOL, and CAP purchases of printing equipment
Implement and maintain color management system
Work closely with Technology staff to identify and implement software and network needs in program spaces
Development and provide procedures for best practices to end users
Teach printing and color management workshops as needed
Provide one-on-one support for printing and color management as needed
Accurately log and document work history for performance review
Perform other related duties as assigned
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have foundational AV equipment knowledge
Must be able to solve technical problems quickly
Must be resourceful, and able to perform complex tasks
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor and work with a diverse population
Ability to understand the role of technology in teaching and art making
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience with large format ink jet printers and implementing color management systems.
Must have excellent customer service and partnership skills and the ability to work under time constraints and in peak activity times
Bachelorâs degree in Digital and electronic arts and/or information technology or related field.
Basic IT certifications such as: Apple Certified Mac Technician (ACMT) or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), ITIL Foundations, etc.
Experience repairing printers
Prior experience working in a higher education or large institution

Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
