Salary Range: $31200 - $49202; dependent on qualifications
THIS IS A TWO-YEARTIME-LIMITEDPOSITION.
The laboratory research technician position will be responsible for working on several projects in the laboratory as determined by funding and interest. The technician will be responsible for placing laboratory orders, assisting laboratory personnel, overseeing facilities, perform standard molecular biology techniques, biochemical techniques, limited microbiological assays, small animal husbandry and genotyping, processing and analyzing tissues, cells and other samples. This position requires ability to write and revise animal protocols, maintain organized laboratory data, protocols and inventory, learn skills and procedures in a wet lab setting and conduct experiments under limited supervision, among other general laboratory duties. Ability to assist with data analyzes after conducting experiments and supervise/train lab personnel in various assays is needed. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to oversee the research efforts of graduate and undergraduate students to facilitate their research.
Education and Experience:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Recent experience with molecular biology techniques and small animal husbandry. Demonstrated ability to assist with general laboratory organization and maintenance. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to execute experimental protocols, and work well with others. Ability to conduct routine laboratory tests and procedures according to a research protocol; ability to mix and/or apply chemicals and other materials; ability to tabulate, organize, and record data; ability to operate equipment and instruments, and to perform minor equipment repairs; ability to maintain laboratory inventory.
Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. biology, biochemistry, molecular biology) is preferred. Experience with cell culture and animal handling and experience recording/entering research data into electronic data capture systems.
