We seek ambitious, detail-oriented, reliable applicants for a position as a Research Technician in a translational cancer immunology lab. The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, oversees a basic-translational research group studying the mechanisms of pediatric sarcoma disease progression and the development of therapeutics to help prevent and treat this disease.
This position will involve experimental mammalian colony maintenance including husbandry and PCR and sequencing-based genotyping, cell line maintenance, and processing/storage of human samples. In addition, this position will involve planning, conducting, analyzing, and providing input into experiments associated with ongoing projects in the lab. Documentation in standard laboratory notebooks and our shared electronic data storage system will be required, as well as presentations at lab meetings and journal clubs. Technical tasks include, but are not limited to, cloning and molecular biology, peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell Isolation, culture and stimulation of primary human cells and cell lines, cytokine measurement, flow cytometry, RNA and DNA isolation, and preparation for Next-gen sequencing.
Competitive candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, or related scientific degree, and want to do rigorous science. More than classroom experience with basic biologic techniques (as listed above) with at least 2 years experience required. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. Some travel may be involved. Intensive training in scientific method and all relevant procedures will be provided by the PI and experienced scientists within the research group. Position will require flexibility with shift/hours.
