Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking an Environmental Technician (ET) for primarily a field technician position working within the Radiological Services and Engineering group. The ET will be involved in the processes of making radio logical measurements and collecting samples from a wide variety of environmental media in support of environmental characterization and remedial action efforts. The ET will also operate the ORION ScanSortSM and ScanPlotSM systems. Both are proprietary, complex, soil evaluation systems that measure the radioactivity in soils based on radiological content. Primary duties are to ensure that the systems are operated and maintained in accordance with established controls and procedures; Identify and respond appropriately to unexpected conditions; Eagerly and adeptly understand and apply new concepts and technologies; Maintain data integrity and quality control; Effectively communicate and coordinate work activities with other field staff. The ET will travel and be assigned to field sites in the US and internationally.
Perform and document radiological measurements in the field
Collect and document samples of various environmental media
Perform the safe, proper, and efficient operations of the ORION systems
Set up, operate, and maintain equipment
Maintain logs of field activities
Critically and analytically assess electronics, machinery, and data to ensure proper operations
Identify, troubleshoot, and rectify deviations from normal operating conditions
Securely manage various sensitive data streams
Use specialized equipment to collect & manage data and prepare analyses & reports
Effectively communicate with other field personnel
Will require some lifting and carrying
Field assignments will require travel and / or work to be performed in the US and internationally to mobilize, install, operate and maintain radiological equipment under a variety of environmental and climatic conditions for extended periods of time
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum of 1-year environmental field work or other directly relevant experience
AS or BS degree or 2 years’ experience in a STEM field strongly preferred
Understanding of applicable scientific methods and technical methodologies
Computer proficiency to include Windows OS and MS Office, especially Excel and Access Basic knowledge of software communications and networking preferred
Basic knowledge of gamma radiation spectroscopy preferred
Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders
Ability to write and prepare reports and documentation
Ability to follow instructions with attention to detail
Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences
Ability to work independently and with a team
HAZWOPER and Radiation Worker Training preferred
Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in the US and internationally, approximately 70% overnight travel per-annum
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Must pass drug test, physical for DOT and respirator use, background check and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy
