We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic and highly motivated Optical Engineer Level I to join our growing business of Transparent Holographic ComponentsTM (THC) prototyping and transition to manufacturing. You will join a diverse research and development staff and help to support the proof of concept, prototyping and production of our new and cutting-edge products for our customers and for our product line. Our small company atmosphere (<100 employees) takes on interesting and diverse challenging projects from private and government customers and we are eager to add talent to our exceptional team! A successful candidate has concrete and demonstrable optical engineering skills. This Full Time Position reports to the Director of Research and Development.
A successful candidate possesses the following REQUIRED core skills:
Optical alignment, component handling, assembly, testing and prototyping.
LabVIEW programming skills
MATLAB, Octave OR Python programming skills
SolidWorks or other solid modeling skills
Soldering and basic electronics skills to support optical prototyping
Good motor skills and the ability to do fine assembly.
Basic computer skills in Windows-based computers, Email, MS Word, MS Excel, Online tools.
Ability to check for defects and identify and distinguish between colors
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Excellent attention to detail and good organization
Knowledge of JMP, Minitab, or other statistical packages preferred.
REQUIRED DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
A successful candidate will perform the following duties and will have the following responsibilities:
Design, prototype, and test complex optical systems
Develop LabVIEW programs for data acquisition and instrument control
Work within a small team (5-10 people) of scientists, engineers, and technicians
Plan and execute one or more technical projects simultaneously
Develop and document new processes and identify existing-process improvements
Direct and train technicians on existing and new processes
Assist in planning and execution of transition of projects from development to operations
Design, build and test opto-mechanical assemblies
Read and produce blueprints, schematics, and wiring and optical diagrams
Build/install electrical parts in housings and assemblies using soldering equipment and hand tools
Use of digital multimeters, micrometers, calipers, microscopes
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors and/or Master’s in Physics, Electrical or Optical Engineering. Experience in optical benchtop prototyping. 1-5 years of industry experience highly desired but not required.
Ability to read and comprehend and write in English. Ability to read and compose technical descriptions and work instructions, document processes and conditions. Ability to effectively present information to superiors and other employees.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited or no standardization exits.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with his hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
