This position is responsible to operate, maintain, repair, and inspect system protection equipment and schemes. This includes:
electromechanical relays, solid state relays, programmable relays, networks, power line carrier, tone equipment, digital fault recorders,
supervisory control and data acquistion (SCADA), and ancillary equipment used in high voltage substations.
This position requires a knowledge of computers, electronic and electrical theory and its applications, electrical blueprint reading,
electronic schematic reading, and a mechanical aptitude at a level acquired through the completion of a two-year degree in Electronic
Technology, or a related field, and a four-year System Protection apprenticeship program; or a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or
HSED) and six years of extra high voltage (EHV) experience as a System Protection Technician. The incumbent must possess computer
knowledge, networking and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to learn and understand vector mathematics. Proficiency in Microsoft
Word and Microsoft Outlook is required. The incumbent must be able to work with minimal supervision and provide work direction. A valid
driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one in the state of residence, is also required. This is a Department of Transportation (DOT)
(FMCSA) (non-CDL) qualified position.
