Seeking a full-time technician at its hydroelectric plant located at the Raystown Lake Dam in Huntingdon County, Pa.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Daily operation of the hydroelectric plant following established plant operating procedures.
Monitor equipment operation and performance; make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
Coordinate daily water release according to Army Corps of Engineers (COE) flow requests.
Respond to plant alarms on a 24-hour basis when “On Call”. Assess root cause, perform repair or reset of an issue, and restore plant operation to normal.
Maintain the plant and associated equipment in a manner that preserves the managed assets and ensures the long-term reliability and efficiency of the plant.
Complete routine maintenance of equipment according to established procedures and schedule.
Maintain the transformers, breakers, conductors, and poles of the Allegheny owned Raystown 46 kV line and right-of-way.
Identify/address malfunctions of hydroelectric plant equipment, perform equipment maintenance, and repair as necessary.
Test, repair or replace mechanical or electrical equipment.
Support and coordinate as necessary periodic inspection, testing, and certification of plant equipment including tunnel inspections, turbine inspections, and electrical equipment inspections.
Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Update and revise operating procedures, as needed.
Support compliance efforts to include Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA III), site geotechnical and temperature monitoring programs, COE’s annual environmental audit, annual insurance inspections, annual Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on-site inspection, and annual Emergency Action Plan (EAP) update.
Provide information and recommendations for capital improvements to increase operating efficiency and extend the life of the assets.
Participate in annual training for all personnel in confined space rescue, Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HazWoper), fire and security procedures, and American Red Cross CPR, first aid and blood-borne pathogens.
Knowledge and Skill Sets
A thorough understanding of the operation and maintenance of industrial equipment. Experience with a power plant, high voltage, or hydraulic equipment a plus.
Basic mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools and repair.
Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Electrical – Knowledge of basic electrical theory, fuses, breakers, lighting, switches. Knowledge of electronics and electronics repair with programmable logic controllers and similar electronic components.
Basic PC and Microsoft application skills such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Written and oral communications abilities.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems in a team environment, and contribute to sound decisions and solutions.
Demonstrated ability to adapt, be flexible, lead, and complete tasks independently.
