The Technical Operations Technician provides maintenance and preventive maintenance support for the School of Workforce Development (SWD) Industrial and Occupational lab equipment. This includes equipment both electronic and manual ranging from Automotive Lifts, Plastic Injection Machines, Machine Tools, to Nursing hospital beds. Skills for installing new equipment, trouble shooting and repairing electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment (malfunctions) will be necessary. The position will provide support and access to outside repair specialists, as well as serve as the first level of communication with faculty and staff. Updating faculty and supervisors on the status and outcomes of current issues and document any requests or concerns.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plan, layout and organize work with minimum supervision.
Provide excellent customer service and communication with faculty and staff on the status of projects, equipment installations and repairs.
Provide mechanical and electronic support to maintain and repair School of Workforce Development (SWD) equipment including coordinating maintenance activities with faculty, staff, and outside vendors to minimize equipment downtimes and class interruptions.
Provide physical and mechanical support for equipment installations and relocations in SWD labs.
Coordinate work done by internal support departments such as Facilities, IT, and external vendors to complete repairs and installations of SWD Lab equipment.
Facilitate preventive maintenance program for SWD lab equipment.
Maintain inventories of SWD equipment, PM lubrication schedules, and repair parts.
Order parts/supplies as required.

Associate’s degree in Machine tool, Electronics, Industrial Machine Maintenance preferred or equivalent education and work experience.
National Career Readiness Certificate preferred, but not required.
Minimum of 5 Years of experience working in an Industrial or Commercial maintenance field.
Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
Ability to read and interpret Blueprints, schematics, drawings, troubleshooting guides, repair manuals.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a variety of individuals.
Computer skills: proficient in the use of Business application programs (Windows, Word, Excel, Access and Google Apps.).
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
Must be flexible to changing priorities, working in a fast paced environment and quick deadlines.
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals in a team environment.
Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with coworkers and outside contacts.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.
May be required to work in the vicinity of labs containing bio hazardous substances.
Ability to work from ladders.
Ability to be licensed and operate a forklift.
Work alone the majority of the time or as part of a team.
Required to work on the main campus and offsite locations.
Work in Industrial and Occupational Service labs with diverse and sometimes hazardous equipment.
Valid Michigan driver’s license; must be able to travel locally between GRCC facilities and to pick up repair parts and supplies.
