Required Qualifications : (As evidenced by an attached resume)
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or closely related discipline (Foreign equivalent or higher degree). Two years of full-time experience in electrical engineering or related position.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Additional years of experience as an electrical engineer.
Brief Description of Duties : As part of the Electric and Machine Shop technical staff for the Department of Physics and Astronomy, this position is responsible for providing technical support and electrical engineering expertise to students, staff, faculty and researchers for the more complex laboratory or research projects.
The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Contribute to overall electronics engineering, design, fabrication and software efforts for custom electronics, primarily associated with large scale international research collaborations in conjunction with off-campus research laboratories such as Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, CERN or other.
Program embedded controllers using C or C++ and FPGAs using Verilog or VHDL, primarily in support of department research group projects.
Electronic trouble-shooting and repair. Provide electronics maintenance and repair services for research and instructional laboratory experiments.
Provide electrical engineering design consultation to graduate students and faculty for electronics equipment design utilized in research experiments. This shall include design techniques, device selection, and methods to acquire experiment data.
Attend weekly and quarterly collaboration program reviews for research program system, design, test, and fabrication status. Provide information of electronic shops' current system design, fabrication, and test status for review of collaboration panel.
Work under direct supervision of the manager and assist in all overall Electronics shop operations. Maintain electronics shop laboratory parts stock and consumable items inventory at optimal levels. Participate in machine and electronics shop clean-up, maintenance and repair of all shop equipment, and yearly inventory count. Inform shop manager of any everyday supplies, raw materials or tooling that may be needed so that it can be ordered. Assist in upgrading the capabilities of the electronics shop with respect to the increasing demands of technical sophistication required by the research groups in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.
This is a full time appointment. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
