The Construction Inspector (Engineering Technician) is responsible for inspecting construction projects for City and performing CADD assistance on design projects.
The starting pay for this position ranges from $25.04 to $28.61/hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Further increases to the top of the range, $34.34/hour, will be based on performance.
The following responsibilities are normal for the position but shall not be construed as exclusive or inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
Inspects sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, street paving and resurfacing, sidewalk, street lighting, traffic signals, and other engineering related projects for conformity with plan and specifications. Inspection includes check of subgrade and proof rolling; quality control and testing of construction materials; checking accuracy of layout; monitoring erosion and traffic control.
Prepares as-built drawings, assists in developing CADD drawings for proposed projects using the latest release of AutoCAD (currently AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018).
Prepares electronic daily reports and diaries related to projects.
Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
Works with contractors on projects to resolve basic issues and address questions on the plans and specifications.
Reviews and assists in resolving resident's concerns and questions.
Inspects and inventories various structures, such as manholes.
Maintains various testing equipment.
Reviews submittals, responds to requests for information, develops contractor pay applications, rewrites project specifications, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Ability to obtain an ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I within twelve months of hire.
Experience using engineering software applications, specifically, but not limited to AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Ability to work overtime as required during the construction season.
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift/open grates and manhole covers weighing up to 150 pounds. Must possess conditioning and stamina to conduct inspection activities in all weather conditions.
Five years related experience preferred.
Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, materials, procedures and methods used in construction work preferred.
Ability to compute moderately complex engineering computations accurately.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
