We are currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Network and Communications Technician in the Engineering Department. This position will report to the Supervisor of Reliability and Technical Services.
Position Summary: Assist with maintenance of Load Management network communications and equipment to ensure operation during high demand periods. Assist in providing reliable in-house systems by monitoring and maintaining the VOIP and Load Management networks. Assist with operation and maintenance of peak shaving diesel generators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with maintenance of the Load Management servers, routers, switches, workstations, and legacy Load Control Management infrastructure.
Assist with establishing and maintaining Central File Transfer Protocol (FTP) connection to Member Cooperative servers.
Assist with establishing and maintaining Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Point to Point Virtual Private Network (VPN) for remote access between Central and multiple internal and external sources.
Assist with establishing and maintaining Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) connection from Central to NHEC for diesel generators and Metering.
Assist with maintaining Corporate Systems Engineering (CSE) Server (Load Control Cell based switches).
Assist with cell-based switch installation coordination with Member Cooperatives.
Assist with configuration and installation of Remote Terminal Units (RTU) at Member Cooperatives for verification switches.
Assist with operations and maintenance of Load Control transmitters.
Assist with maintaining and establishing communication licenses with the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).
Coordinates load control communication maintenance with Santee Cooper and Member Cooperatives.
Maintain reliable network communications to all industrial, wholesale billing, Santee Cooper, and Member Cooperative sites.
Assist Metering Department with provisioning cellular device communications.
Assist with establishing and maintaining firewalls for network security.
Configure and maintain Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) network.
Assist Senior Engineer with maintaining six diesel generators for peak shaving, including exercising the diesel generators as required or assigned.
Assist Senior Engineer with reporting to Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and training in theory of networking and telecommunications systems, preferably CISCO networking devices.
Prior knowledge of computer programming and servers required.
Must be able to stand, walk, and bend while work in substations and industrial switchgear rooms.
Physical demands include climbing, standing, walking, bending in awkward positions and lifting up to 50 pounds of equipment.
Considered essential personnel, travel to remote sites throughout the state, on call 24 hours, some night work required, overnights and travels during weather events may be required.
Education and Work Experience:
Technical certification in Networking Systems, Networking Engineer, Electronics, or Computers is preferred.
One-two years prior experience in Networking, telecommunications, or computer operations is preferred
CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is preferred but not required.
