GDIT is seeking an Equipment Repairer/BMET to support the Army Public Health Center (APHC) in Aberdeen proving Ground, MD The APHC’s mission is to promote health and prevent disease, injury, and disability of Soldiers and military retirees, their families, and the Department of the Army civilian employees; and assure effective execution of full spectrum veterinary service for Army and Department of Defense Veterinary missions. Duties Include: •Provides for the safe and reliable operation of laboratory equipment and systems. •Install, modify, troubleshoot, maintain, test, calibrate, adjust, overhaul, and repair a wide variety of medical and laboratory equipment (electronic, electrical, and mechanical). •Typical examples of equipment serviced include ultracentrifuges, spectrophotometers, ultrasonic equipment, gas chromatographs, liquid chromatographs, mass spectrometers, electron microscopes, X-ray units, labware washers, necropsy equipment, temperature sensitive monitoring devices, laboratory refrigerator and freezers. •Maintain and repair chemical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum, suction and pressure systems which may include water, steam, air, gas under pressure, and piped oxygen lines associated with equipment serviced. •Determine nature and extent of repairs required by checking equipment for malfunctions, requiring the tracing of wiring, broken or worn parts, leaks, feedback, and interference. •Check voltage tolerances, amperage, power supplies, wave shape, frequency resonance, deflection time, decay curve, gain, balance, and signal sensitivity against prescribed tolerances and specifications. •Plan and carry out work assignments using blueprints, schematic drawings, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, liquid and air flow sheets, and other specifications. •Test equipment after repair and also new equipment to assure proper functioning; conduct preventive maintenance inspection of equipment; performs acceptance inspections for new equipment; performs technical inspections for classification of equipment identified for turn in; performs periodic checks to insure that using personnel are following proper preventive maintenance procedures; and may conduct on-the-job training for lower graded employees in the maintenance of laboratory equipment. •Receives work assignments orally or through work orders. •Independently determines the nature of trouble and extent of repairs required and completes repairs following established trade practices and procedures, using technical manuals, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, liquid and air flow sheets, and other specifications. •Performs operational tests after repairs have been completed or when new equipment is received to assure that equipment is operating within prescribed limits so that lives are not endangered. •Completed work is reviewed for adherence to specification and accepted trade practices. •Maintains records of work through the use of established automated systems.

Requirements: •5-8 years of related inventory management experience. •2-5 years of related experience in logistics, traffic and/or supply chain management preferred. •Moderate level of knowledge and skills involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic equipment and components in order to independently perform work ranging from minor repairs and adjustments to new installation. Work requires knowledge of various trades including mechanical, electrical, steam, refrigeration, plumbing and welding, and of all pertinent safety practices. Must be able to determine nature and extent of repairs necessary, materials and parts needed, plan and lay out work using work orders, sketches, blueprints, technical manuals and other specifications, and be skilled in the use of test equipment. Must be able to use a variety of power and hand tools. •Competent in interpreting statutory and regulatory requirements for GLP and AAALAC and translating those requirements into written policies and procedures. Must be able to train laboratory personnel in the proper use and operator maintenance of equipment to meet GLP and multiple Accreditation standards. •Moderate level of knowledge and skills involving a variety of service contract efforts, which involves initiation of procurement action, budget planning, payment, work scheduling, contractor surveillance, contractor performance assessment, development of modifications and issue/problem resolution. Assignments typically involve contracts for which established precedents and policies exist; detailed specifications, drawings, purchase descriptions, and cost data are available; and are usually of the firm fixed-price type. -- Must be capable of performing repairs to mechanical equipment such as sterilizers, centrifuges, gas chromatographs, liquid chromatographs, mass spectrometers, electron microscopes, X-ray units, labware washers, necropsy equipment, temperature sensitive monitoring devices, laboratory refrigerator and freezers. Must be knowledgeable of and able to select proper replacement parts, modification kits, and identifies materials, mechanisms, and components from knowledge of diagram symbols, color code descriptions and manufacturers numbers. -- Must be capable of performing repairs to mechanical equipment such as sterilizers, X-ray tables, operating tables, pressure breathing therapy units, respirators, and other mechanical assemblies using gears, shafts, and pulleys. Must be knowledgeable of and able to select proper replacement parts, modification kits, and identifies materials, mechanisms, and components from knowledge of diagram symbols, color code descriptions and manufacturers numbers. •Skill in utilizing electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators; electrical test equipment such as ohmmeters, test meters; equipment such as micrometers and calipers to detect wear and misalignment of gears, cams, valves, and other mechanical parts; and seat wrenches, end pressure gauges when working on hydraulic systems. --Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, liquid and air flow sheets, technical manuals, and other specifications and makes mathematical computations, using algebraic expressions and shop formulas relating to load requirements of wiring and equipment. |
