This position is responsible for the financial support of 10-20 Principle Investigators (PIs) in the areas of pre- and post-award management, contract management, startup funds, trust funds, and professorships. Duties will include proposal preparation and submission, financial reporting, budget projections, account reconciliation, journal entries, vouchers, purchase orders, and travel.
Duties also include explaining and interpreting complex financial information, in writing or orally. In addition, the position has responsibility for identifying and resolving problems of moderate complexity. This position must maintain a considerable knowledge of regulations, policies, procedures and other guidelines related to the position's areas of functional responsibility. This includes knowledge of accounting systems, as well as software packages used to create and maintain data. The position monitors processes relevant to areas of functional responsibility, ensuring adequate internal controls are maintained, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Candidates must possess strong computer skills and good mathematical skills. The selected candidate must demonstrate the ability to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communications are required. This person must be experienced in Excel spreadsheet creation and maintenance. The selected candidate must possess excellent multitasking, problem-solving, and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and work under deadline pressure with the ability to meet multiple competing deadlines. Candidate must also have proven ability to exercise excellent judgment, work independently and make sound decisions in the absence of formal guidelines. Because so many of the duties of this position involve constant interaction with others, candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment. Occasional weekend, evening, and overtime work may be required.
Previous accounting experience is preferred. Preference for individuals with the ability to develop grant proposal budgets, project expenses, apply granting agency guidelines, and manage electronic grant proposal submissions. Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply a wide variety of departmental, University, State, and Federal policies and procedures that apply to grant proposals is preferred.
