Under general supervision, and with some latitude for independent judgment, perform educational, technical and logistical duties in support of the School of Design Shop and Form and Tech Lab. Reporting to the Technical Coordinator for the School of Design, the individual will primarily support digital fabrication equipment and guide users of this equipment in the school facilities.
Operate a variety of equipment in School of Design Shop, and the Form and Tech Lab, with particular attention to CNC machines, 3D printers and laser cutters.
Train faculty and student staff on proper use of equipment, with particular attention to digital fabrication equipment.
Supervise student staff and all other users in the Shop and Lab.
Work with other School of Design technicians to oversee usage and maintenance of a variety of equipment and materials used in the Shop and Lab.
Perform all other related tasks as assigned.
Weekend work required during fall and spring semesters. Some overtime work required at the end of the fall and spring semesters.
This is a Technical Local 153 position.
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of three years of experience working with students in a wood shop and or digital fabrication shop.
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of rapid prototyping and CNC equipment required. Basic understanding of interactive electronics, coding for sensors and microcontrollers desired.
Other: Excellent interpersonal and verbal communications skills and a demonstrated ability to interact well with faculty and students.
