The City of Roanoke is seeking a Signal Technician I in the Public Works - Transportation Division. This position performs skilled and technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signals and other control devices; recommends or makes timing changes in various signal equipment; and installs and repairs traffic signals, controllers, electronic timing devices, Opticom and signal video detection systems, school zone flashers and all of the city-owned street lights and other electrical and electronic equipment.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by technical training in electrical and electronic engineering; one to three years' related experience and/or training in the construction and maintenance of electronic systems, traffic control devices or various signal systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a CDL or obtain within six months of employment. Must possess or obtain within two years of employment IMSA Traffic Signal Level I certification. Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and possession of a valid appropriate electrical license within four years of employment is required.
