The primaryduties of the Technical Manager (TM) of the BSF are to oversee and facilitate alloperations that are performed by the BSF. These operations include all areas ofproject design, construction, installation, maintenance of scientific equipmentand instrumentation, coordination of BSF personnel, and oversight of budgets. It alsoserves as an internal divisional support for desktop computer services for usein the teaching and research programs in the Division of Biology. The TM worksclosely with students, staff, faculty, and administrators to assist in meetingtheir research and teaching needs. The TM will also help with equipmentspecifications, and ordering new equipment for new and existing facultymembers.
The TM will overseepersonnel within the BSF, including by making decisions regarding theassignment and priorities of work, organizing weekly staff meetings, assessingprogress, responding to issues within the BSF and in the Division, and participating inprojects where needed. The TM is responsible for staff hiring,evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed. The TM will work with the BSFAdministrative Specialist regarding oversight of billing and fiscal managementof recoveryfunds.
The TM alsoserves as building representative for multiple buildings on and off campusincluding all buildings occupied by the Division of Biology faculty/staff andis the primary liaison with FacilityServices. The TM will coordinate building maintenanceutility issues, facilitate laboratory renovations and changes.
