We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Research Technician II. Provides analytical and technical support for university initiatives related to quality assurance, educational effectiveness, and strategic decision-making. This includes, but not limited to, analyzing student and faculty academic and experiential data, carrying out quantitative and qualitative research studies, generating reports, and communicating research and evaluation results to internal and external stakeholders. Applies appropriate research, analysis and reporting techniques to facilitate meaningful interpretation of data. Manages and maintains relevant databases. Works on a variety of special projects and activities to advance department goals. Develops innovative procedures or practices to address issues related to data collection, analysis and reporting. Prepares and presents research findings to a wide spectrum of audience in a way that facilitates sound understanding and utilization of results. Works in a diverse, collegial consultative team environment. The Research Technician II Uses judgment, discretion, and decision making skills with confidential and sensitive issues. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications: Bachelors degree of the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field and two years of progressively responsible experience in technical research or statistical work in the collection, compilation, and analysis of data. Graduate-level study in the Social Sciences, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Public or Business Administration or Engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Additional experience demonstrating the acquisition and successful application of the required knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations, determining variables, developing bibliographical and other sources of data, and preparing reports. General knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including the methods of collecting statistical data, simple correlation methods, time series analyses, analysis of frequency series, sampling techniques, and construction of index numbers. General knowledge of sources of information on social, economic, and population trends in California. Ability to prepare questionnaires and other survey instruments. Ability to gather, compile, and analyze research data, as well as the ability to present data in tabular, graphic, and pictorial form. Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports. Ability to apply independent and creative thinking and writing skills to research and statistical problems. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of a small team.
