The Biology Department of Millersville University invites applications for its full-time, year-round Laboratory Technician position. This position disseminates Biology Department news and information to the electronic community. It maintains the Department's capital equipment inventory and small equipment items. With feedback from department faculty, this position maintains the greenhouses, animal care facility, and teaching laboratories. This person also recruits, trains, and supervises student workers to assist with the above duties.
Bachelor’s degree in Biology or closely related field.
Proficiency with MS Office.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize duties.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to safely work with chemicals & prepare solutions to the proper molar concentration.
Demonstrated evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion.
Successful interview and three successful background checks: Act 34 (Criminal Record Check); Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting); and Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance).
Master’s degree in Biology or related field
Experience updating websites.
Experience maintaining a greenhouse.
Experience maintaining an animal care facility.
Experience maintaining a capital equipment inventory.
Experience working in an academic environment.
Experience working with laboratory equipment.
Experience supervising student workers.
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Ability to work in a greenhouse and perform tasks such as planting, transplanting, pruning, and spraying.
Ability to work in an animal care facility and perform tasks such as handling mice and rats, feeding, watering, cage washing, and euthanizing sick animals.
Ability to work in a laboratory setting and perform tasks such as preparing solutions, cetrifugation, and microscopy.
Ability to train, supervise, and effectively schedule student workers.Physical requirements:
Able to sit for extended periods of time.
Able to stand and work within a laboratory setting.
Able to walk across campus for occasional errands.
Able to walk hallways and stairs within and between buildings.
Able to kneel, bend, pull, push, reach and lift to move equipment, plants, animal cages, etc.
