RESEARCH ENGINEER , Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) , to conduct research to develop advanced, high power and efficient RF sources. The research will center on an advanced, high power (> 1 MW) radiofrequency source at 120 MHz which will ultimately be the basis for a 50 MWRF system which will be the largest RF system in fusion research. Will also be expected to conduct research to develop a high efficiency, high power klystron or solid state RF source at ~4.6 GHz; assess, design and implement upgrades to an existing 4.6 GHz RF source for the purpose of testing concepts; present results at national and international technical conferences and publish them in peer reviewed journals. Responsibilities include designing, simulating, and testing the RF cavities for the final power amplifier; developing the specifications for the screen and grid supplies for the final amplifier and final amplifier tetrode; developing specifications for high voltage power supplies; developing specifications for a high power solid state driver and integrating with the final amplifier; and commissioning the RF source; modeling the electron bunch and designing the proper drift cavities critical to enabling higher klystron efficiency; supervising technicians and other researchers; supervising system startup/shutdown and operations; and examining system reliability and lifetime issues required for reliable operation of the RF systems.
REQUIRED : Ph.D. in electrical engineering or physics, at least five years' experience with RF systems, supervisory experience, experience with RF simulation and analysis, and strong communication skills.
