Indiana University Kokomo seeks qualified candidates for a General Maintenance Technician in the Physical Facilities Department. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Under the general direction and supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will perform a variety of skilled trades work (carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical) on university equipment. This position is considered essential personnel of the university, and must report to work during inclement weather and/or emergency situations.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to: diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them checking blueprints, repair manuals, parts catalogs etc. as necessary; perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure machines run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently and maintain physical condition of buildings; perform minor carpentry work; install, repair and/or replace electrical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment and systems along with electronic/pneumatic controls; assist as required/directed with snow and ice removal and respond to emergency calls and determine corrective measures to maximize safety and minimize inconvenience to the campus community.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent plus three years of applicable maintenance experience required. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have knowledge and technical skills required for the repair and maintenance of plumbing, heating, and electrical systems, as well as minor carpentry work and repairs. Must possess knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment pertaining to general maintenance work, the ability to read and interpret sketches/blueprints/schematics, and must understand oral/written instructions. Incumbent will perform tasks requiring medium-heavy exertions, and must have the ability to work with/around hazardous chemicals and maintenance/building materials. Must be available in the event of emergencies or when needed to support the University students, faculty, staff, and guests. Vocational training or completed apprenticeship training in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or equivalent experience preferred, as is Universal EPA/Refrigeration certification.
