Provides technical and scientific support of the Precision AG research and Extension program at EREC. Performs precision machining, electrical and other fabrication duties required to manufacture ag research equipment typically of a complex mechanical nature; and supervises and instructs other technicians and part time laborers. Completes other duties as assigned.. JOB DUTIES:
25% - Essential - Management: Supervise overall management and coordination of the Precision Agriculture research and Extension projects including personnel under general instruction from the project leader(s).
20% - Essential - Research: Manages and conducts research and routine operations required to lay out experimental plots, plant, maintain, harvest, and collect data. This includes analyzing field data using Statistical Analysis System.
30% - Essential - Equipment Operation and Fabrication: Operates research shop equipment, including lathe, milling machine, welder and other precision equipment to cut precision tapers, internal and external threads, etc. Builds precision components and assemblies through interpreting blueprints. Maintain all research shop and field equipment in proper operating condition. Fabricates and assists in designing prototype equipment used in precision farming, irrigation and conservation tillage research, including assembling electronic sensors, wiring, and assembling hydraulic circuits.
15% - Essential - Data Management: Uses microcomputer-based electronic instrumentation to collect field data and to control Precision Agriculture equipment. Analyzes field and laboratory research data.
10% - Essential - Equipment Transportation and Setup: Transports, sets up, operates, and tests experimental machines. Collects data and conducts experiments at various off-center locations on cooperator farms. Operates low-boy trailer for transporting equipment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree in animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience that is directly related to the area of employment may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. RESPONSIBILITIES:
