Responsible primarily for the installation, maintenance, repair, moves, adds, and changes related to Kirkwood Community College passive communications infrastructure (fiber, copper, coax) supporting data, voice, A/V, CATV. This person manages small to large scale cabling projects that may be new or remodel in nature. Will regularly interface with professionals responsible for Communications and Information Technologies and be expected to operate and assist within disciplines such as Voice, Data, & A/V when needed. Experience in project management and success working with building tradesmen and women and architect firms and designers is expected.
Supervise and direct temporary contracted cabling professionals on small to medium size projects. Ensure a complete, tested and documented project.
Manage a budget related to Structured Cabling to satisfy all material, test sets, and tools needed for projects.
Responsible for the installation, termination and testing of copper, optical fiber, and coax cable.
Assist with the field installation and maintenance of power conditioning electronics such as UPS systems and lightning protection.
Verify and maintain all needed pathway data, cable type, strand/pair count, and it's usage to ensure accurate documentation for those administering Enterprise Voice, Data, and Video Systems.
Execute effectively professionally designed communications infrastructure for new building and remodel projects.
Maintain materials and stock levels for structured cabling needs and changes.
Develop and sustain systems for geographically mapping and protecting outside cable plant as well as an inventory for how the different cable plant types are purposed.
Collaborate regularly with Facilities Department on changes to campus infrastructure and represent the Technology Services interests.
Interface with contracted communications design engineers on new construction and remodels to ensure college goals are met.
Perform other related work duties as assigned.
Be open and collaborative with the Communications, Information, and A/V disciplines and willingness to operate and assist within those disciplines as needed.

Must be able to receive and comprehend both written and verbal communications, and use proper English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; ability to perform common arithmetic functions and detailed reporting and record keeping functions. Must possess basic technical writing skills.
Must be able to work effectively in an environment where interruptions of work in progress occur frequently, where work on multiple projects is common, and where timelines on project completion are tight.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
An AA degree or a minimum of five years successful work experience in Telecommunications related field.
Must possess (or be able to obtain) a valid Iowa Driver's License for use to visit campus sites throughout the seven-county service area.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed the core assessments of the Skills Advantage WorkKeys Program.
Preference will be given to candidates who posses specialized certification in the field, such as professional organization certifications like BICSI certified technicians.
