I. POSITION IDENTIFICATION
Job Title: AMI Technician
Department: Information Technology Supervises: None
Reports to: Director of AMI
Other Reporting Relationships: The employee may temporarily, or on an ongoing basis, direct the activities of other(s) as determined appropriate by supervisory personnel.
Internal Relationships: Builds and maintains positive and productive working relationships with fellow employees.
Member-Consumer Relationships: Builds and maintains positive member-consumer relationships promoting the Cooperative’s plans, procedures, and services as well as promoting a positive image for the organization and its goals and objectives.
External Relationships: Builds and maintains positive external relationships with the general public and other organizations which contribute to the overall success of the organization and reflects positively on the organization and its goals and objectives.
II. PURPOSE OF POSITION
To ensure the efficient operation of the Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI). To provide phone system support to the IT Department as needed. To serve as a back up to the Director of AMI.
III. MAJOR OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. ACCOUNTABILITY - the following activities are specific to this position: 1. Monitor various reports and alarms within the AMI system and respond as needed. 2. Monitor and respond to the following alarms within the AMI system: a. Failed Meters b. Lost Meters c. System Alerts d. Not Logging e. Download Issues f. Unregulated Voltage 3. Coordinating needed AMI maintenance with AMI Director. 4. Troubleshoot failed, lost, not logging and meters in the field when needed. 5. Solid understanding of Radio Shop Software. 6. Solid understanding of collector and router installations. 7. Solid understanding of RF technology. 8. Troubleshoot RF meters for interference. 9. Maintain, upgrade, and monitor AMI Collectors. 10. Assist other Cooperative personnel in troubleshooting AMI customer issues. 11. Assist other Cooperative personnel in troubleshooting Prepay meter issues. 12. Stay up to date on AMI and metering technologies. 13. Install or change meters as needed. 14. Responds to consumer-member inquiries regarding meters and conducts voltage checks on consumer-member premises as requested. 15. A solid understanding of single and three phase meters. 16. Inspects, installs, maintains, tests and repairs all forms of single phase electronic metering equipment. Assisting in the administration of the overall metering and electronic metering control equipment. 17. Solid understanding of computers and how to operate them.
B. The following activities are performed by all CEMC employees:

Keep informed of all CEMC plans, policies and programs.
Keep supervisor informed of all activities.
Exercise reasonable care in the use of and security of all CEMC assets.

Position Title: AMI Technician
Education: High School Diploma & 5 years Utility Experience.
Job Training, Experience, and Knowledge: The individual must have some prior job related experience consistent with the type to be conducted by the position. Must be capable of developing and consistently applying a thorough knowledge of safety practices and polices and procedures of the employer. A knowledge of RUS system specifications and standards necessary for the position in order to determine and recognize facility problems and/or unsafe conditions. Must develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of regulatory issues and standards such as OSHA, National Electrical Safety Code and all other regulatory agencies of jurisdiction. Must be capable of communicating effectively in written and oral form, and completing work reports and related work documentation. Must have the ability to understand and apply metering technology as applicable to the electronic metering equipment utilized by CEMC.
A combination of educational equivalents, and/or directly related prior work experience and/or training with demonstrated proficiency may be substituted for any or all of the educational requirements
Abilities and Skills: Must have strong mathematical abilities and the ability to perform responsibilities effectively and timely. Individual must have the ability to perform multiple tasks and maintain a high degree of accuracy in work performance and finished work quality. This is a highly technical job that will require proficient use of computers and other electronic devices. Must be proficient, or capable of demonstrating proficiency in a short time, the effective utilization and application of computerized and related technological methods to the duties of the position. Must have the ability to work as a team in the promotion and accomplishment of the organization’s goals and objectives overall and as they relate to the department. Must have the ability to interact positively with others, solve problems and communicate solutions to others constructively.
Equipment and Machinery Operated: Motor vehicles, computers, small hand held or mobile electrical instruments and devices, customary office and business communications equipment may also be utilized in the position. Hand and “minor” power tools may also be utilized in the performance of duties of the position or as otherwise assigned by supervisory personnel.
General physical activity and demands: Lifting and moving of weights in excess of 50 pounds is infrequent but occasionally required. Position requires the individual to be capable of stooping, bending, reaching, climbing and grasping and frequently walking long distances. Good hand to eye coordination is necessary as is the ability to read electronic displays and screens, printed materials and maps and application of tools and materials. Must be capable of utilizing hand held and manually operated tools coincident with the duties of the position. The duties of the position are performed outside with exposure to weather extremes
Driver’s License requirement: Must maintain a valid N.C. Driver’s License of the type specified by the Cooperative as necessary to carry out the duties assigned to the position.
Overtime Status: This position is subject to the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as amended.
