Electronics Technician 2 SCADA Maintenance Unit South Florida Water Management District Field Operations Center, West Palm Beach, FL
The South Florida Water Management District is seeking an Electronics Technician 2 to take over the following responsibilities: •Experienced technician who performs installation, testing, evaluation, calibration, maintenance and adjustments to electronic equipment for optimum performance, and repairs malfunctions of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) equipment. •Measures performance characteristics of analog and digital/data communication systems. Troubleshoots failed units down to modular and parameter level, analyzes the cause of failures, and performs necessary repairs. Runs a variety of environmental, operational, and functional tests on components, systems, and new or repaired products. •Analyzes and interprets test data, documents site conditions, work activities, repairs, failures and limitations of the equipment. •May devise or recommend new test procedures or changes to service schedules. Requirements: •Receives an explanation of the problem and of equipment requirements, obtains advice on unexpected results, works from schematics, rough sketches and block diagrams, and leans on precedent results. •Work is reviewed for technical adequacy and accuracy, and adherence to instructions. •Is able to carry out any maintenance task specified and documented by the manufacturer and adjust the tolerances of the equipment to the maximum attainable by the manufacturer’s design. •Works within the sub-systems to ensure proper functioning of the whole system. •Applies competencies to complex and non-routine assignments. •Has advanced computer and instrumentation systems aptitude and proficiency. •Is skilled in using instruments such as voltmeters, wattmeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, soldering iron and various other small tools. •Has working knowledge of electrical and electronics practices and tools including electronic circuitry, radio frequency, digital and analog components, control systems, microprocessors, digital communication, remote terminal units (RTUs) and programmable logic controllers (PLC). •Is detail-oriented and fully capable of working independently some of the time. •Thoroughly understands and applies electronics theory. Is thoroughly familiar with the theory, design characteristics, operation, and functions of electronics equipment. •Has the ability to interpret and work with schematic diagrams, sketches, work-related documents, and verbal instructions. •Has solid oral and written communication skills, and can provide complete and understandable reports and verbal explanations. Possesses solid technical skills to identify /assess a problem, and implement an effective solution. •Has physical stamina including the ability to stoop, climb, and maneuver in hard-to-reach places in a hot, wet/humid environment. •May operate a variety of heavy vehicles such as forklift or bucket truck, based on business needs; may require ability to complete training in operation of such vehicles.
Work hours are Monday - Thursday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm; off on Friday. Employment Guidelines: •Typically has Associate's degree in Electronic Technology or related field and 2+ years’ experience within electronics or a related area. Licenses: •Valid State of Florida Driver's License (Class E) •Ability to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid. Physical Requirements/Working Environment: •Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position will be required to provide independent and team support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies. •This position will, at times, be required to be On-Call after regular work hours, weekends, and holidays. •The majority of the work is field related in remote areas with heavy vegetation, under hot or cold, humid, wet conditions.
